Shibu Soren (Social media)
National News: Shibu Soren, one of Jharkhand’s most influential political figures and a powerful voice for tribal rights, passed away on Monday at the age of 81. He had been receiving treatment for kidney-related issues at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for over a month. His death has left not just Jharkhand, but the entire nation, mourning the loss of a leader who stood firm for justice and equality.
Born on 11 January 1944 in Nemra village, Hazaribagh (now part of Ramgarh district), Shibu Soren came from a humble tribal background. Despite his modest beginnings, his determination and leadership turned him into a national figure. He led the long and difficult fight for a separate Jharkhand state and worked tirelessly for the rights and welfare of tribal communities.
Soren founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and was seen as the heart and soul of the movement. Over the years, he became a symbol of strength for marginalized communities. He served as Chief Minister of Jharkhand and also held the post of Union Minister three times.
His son, Hemant Soren, who is also the current Chief Minister of Jharkhand, confirmed his father’s death through an emotional post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Today, I am empty-handed. My father, Guruji, devoted his entire life to the fight for social justice. Today, the soul of Jharkhand is weeping.”
आदरणीय दिशोम गुरुजी हम सभी को छोड़कर चले गए हैं।

आज मैं शून्य हो गया हूँ...
For the people of Jharkhand, Shibu Soren was more than a political leader—he was lovingly called “Guruji,” a title that reflected the deep respect people had for him.
President Droupadi Murmu, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several top political leaders across India expressed their sorrow at the passing of Shibu Soren. They remembered him as a visionary, grounded leader who never stopped working for the people, especially for tribal and backward communities.
To honor him, the Jharkhand government has declared seven days of state mourning. Government buildings will fly the national flag at half-mast, and no official celebrations or events will take place during this period.
Across the state, thousands of JMM supporters and citizens are paying their respects. Candle marches, prayer gatherings, and tribute events are being held in various towns and villages. People are remembering him as a “People’s Leader” and “Son of the Soil.”
According to the family, the final rites of Shibu Soren may take place either in his native village or in Ranchi. The date and time of the funeral will be shared soon, and a large number of people are expected to attend to bid him farewell.
Shibu Soren was a leader who remained connected to the ground even while holding high positions in power. He gave hope to millions, inspired generations, and gave the tribal community a sense of identity and pride. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to guide Jharkhand and its people for years to come.
